In Namibia, 42 per cent of the population is under the age of 14... It is therefore not surprising that the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) asked the Academy to organise a training workshop on radio magazines for young people. The twelve participants, from the ten vernacular language services of Namibian public radio, worked with Sophie Marsaudon to hone their skills in writing programmes for children and explore new ways of attracting and retaining young listeners. At the end of the workshop, which was held in English from 11 to 15 July 2011, a pilot group was formed: NBC tasked it with designing new programmes for 6-12 year olds, which will be produced in all languages (including English and German) and broadcast throughout the country on the 10 national radio stations.
